Palace Chapel or Chapel of San Juan

Period: Siglo XVI

The Palace Chapel, also called the Chapel of San Juan, is a small architectural jewel attached to the Palace of the Grand Priors. Built in the 16th century as a private oratory for the priors of the Order of Saint John, its main treasure is the magnificent Mudéjar coffered ceiling that covers its roof, carefully restored to return the splendour of its intricate lacework and polychromy. This type of ceiling, heir to the Hispano-Muslim carpentry tradition, makes the chapel a singular example of Mudéjar art in La Mancha. Despite its modest dimensions, the space conveys an atmosphere of serenity and beauty that surprises visitors and complements a visit to the monumental complex of the Tower and Palace.
