Plaza de España

Plaza de España is the heart of Alcázar de San Juan, the place where the city's social, administrative and tourist life converges. Presided over by the Town Hall building, the square also houses the tourist office — the ideal starting point for planning your visit. At its centre stands the monument to Don Quixote and Sancho Panza, a work by sculptor Marino Amaya unveiled in 1971, depicting the knight errant and his faithful squire in a bronze composition that has become a symbol of the city. Surrounded by arcaded buildings and terraces where you can sample La Mancha cuisine, the square regularly hosts markets, fairs and popular celebrations. Sitting in the shade of its trees and watching the locals come and go is the best way to feel the authentic pulse of this La Mancha city.
