Piédrola Archaeological Site

The Piédrola Archaeological Site is one of the most interesting Roman sites in the province of Ciudad Real. Located about five kilometres from the centre of Alcázar de San Juan, it preserves the remains of a Hispano-Roman rustic villa that was active between the 1st and 4th centuries AD. Its most notable find are the polychrome mosaics that paved the main rooms, with geometric and figurative motifs of remarkable artistic quality, some of which are displayed in the Municipal Museum. Excavations have also uncovered the structures of baths, storerooms and farming facilities that allow visitors to reconstruct daily life on an agricultural estate on the Meseta during Roman rule. The site can be visited by prior arrangement with the tourist office and makes a perfect excursion for archaeology enthusiasts.
