Windmills of Cerro de San Antón
The Windmills of Cerro de San Antón are the most iconic image of Alcázar de San Juan and one of the best-preserved windmill clusters in all of La Mancha. Four white windmills — named Fierabrás, Barcelona, Rocinante and Barataria in homage to Cervantes' work — stand against the sky atop the hill, offering a scene that seems torn from the pages of Don Quixote. Two of them have been restored as a museum, allowing visitors to see the ingenious milling mechanism up close and learn about the importance of wind and wheat in La Mancha's economy over the centuries. From the hilltop esplanade, an exceptional viewpoint overlooks the vast plain, with views reaching the distant mountain ranges on clear days. A visit at sunset, when the light gilds the blades and the horizon turns ochre, is an unforgettable experience.
